WWF More Fish Campaign newsletter - January 2012 (Jan 24)
As part of its campaign to see ambitious reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), WWF is calling on the European Parliament to exert its co-decision powers in order to achieve the best possible reform.

A newsletter is sent to all 736 MEPs to raise awareness about the importance of this once-in-a-decade opportunity for reform and inform them about the different aspects of the reform proposal.

WWF Caucasus Programme Office (WWF-Caucasus) in partnership with WWF-Germany, WWF-Armenia and WWF-Azerbaijan is involved in implementation of EU financed Project on Increasing the resilience of forest ecosystems against climate change in the South Caucasus Countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia) through forest transformation (Project) for 2011-2014.

WWF-Caucasus is seeking for procurement of service contract to be concluded with International Forestry Expert to provide expert advice and guidance within a framework of the Project and therefore announces the present Call for Expression of Interest for Technical Assistance of an International Forestry Expert.

Five years of PA4LP work in the Caucasus Ecoregion (Dec 21)
From 2007 to 2011 Protected Areas for a Living Planet (PA4LP) project has enabled governments, NGOs, and other stakeholders to come together to support the establishment of new PAs, the creation of management plans of existing PAs, the drafting of legislation and the coordination of efforts between countries on achieving CBD targets.
The results of the 2011 review of implementation of the CBD’s Programme of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA) in the Caucasus Ecoregion are summarized in the specially produced brochure. PoWPA implementation was reviewed in five countries of the Caucasus Ecoregion - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia and Turkey. In these countries PA4LP supported strong national and regional level partnerships of donors, governments, scientists and civil society which assisted governments in delivering on CBD Protected Areas commitments. This partnership approach made a significant contribution to meeting CBD targets and strengthening of PA systems in the Caucasus.

Highlights (Dec 19)
 WWF has been selected and contractualized by the Fishing Directorate to manage component 2 of the Project funded by the World Bank after a call for bid. Component 2 of the Project is about rehabilitating Ecosystems essential for coastal Fisheries. In the end, in collaboration with fishery communities in the sites covered by the project, WWF will create a protected fishing zone or Marine Protected Area covering Mbodiene, Pointe Sarene, Mballing and Nianing in the small Coast and another one in Dakar in the areas between Soumbedioune and ouakam. Artificial Reefs will be immersed at Yenn and Bargny. Lobsters and slipper lobsters in the fisheries of Dakar between Yoff and Soumbedioune are the species chosen for a process of ecolabelling under the MSC label. In sites hosting Protected Fishing zones and artificial reefs, access rights and their associated management tools will be defined.
